I have a wide range of experience, both in the laboratory and on fieldwork, and am fully trained on the following instruments and techniques:
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (imaging and analysis – EDS and Raman), including variable pressure, field emission and FIB
- Electron microprobe (imaging and analysis)
- Nano CT scanning
- Transmission Electron Microscopy (with EDS)
- X-Ray Diffraction, including scanning and fixed detectors
- Laser particle analysis (e.g. Malvern Mastersizer; NanoSight; Zetasizer)
- Various chemical digestion and analysis methods (microwave; HF digestion; Li metaborate fusion)
- Inductively coupled plasma – atomic emission spectroscopy/mass spectrometry (ICP-AES/MS)
- X-ray fluorescence (XRF), including handheld instruments
- Infrared spectroscopy
- Variety of surface characterisation methods (BET surface area analysis; Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectroscopy)
- Variety of in vitro toxicity tests (such as haemolysis and inflammatory marker tests).
- Air quality monitoring and personal exposure techniques (e.g. DustTrak; Filter packs; Cascade impactors)
In addition to the above techniques, I have limited experience in the following:
- Transmission electron microscopy (limited)
- Biological tissue preparation (including Os staining, fixing, embedding and sectioning)
- Iron chromatography (IC)
I have the following computing training and experience:
- Windows and Apple Mac software
- Adobe Illustrator
- various web design packages
- GIS software (ArcGIS)
- LATEX
- basic programming script (PYTHON)
- statistical software (R, SPSS)
- Remote sensing
